Marek Bronstring’s blog

A blog about game design and development & randomness.

I forgot that I have this blog.

Most of you (by which I mean you, all ten remaining readers of this blog) already know this, but I thought I’d still officially post an update here. The news is that I’m no longer a Game Designer at NCsoft Europe as there is no longer a development studio at NCsoft Europe. Following a major global restructuring a month ago, NCsoft accidentally the whole thing and made half the company redundant. So there’s that.

We had a spectacular team at NCsoft and I’m happy to say that we aren’t parting ways just yet. We have been re-pitching our project to various investors and publishers with the goal to establish a new studio (that’s not our final URL or company name, but I like that logo too much not to link to it). NCsoft Europe has actually been very supportive of our efforts to keep the team together. While it sucks to be laid off, it’s great that NCsoft still wants us to succeed.

In the time that I was at NCsoft I was constantly impressed by the sheer amount of good people there. Some of those good people are now available for hire. Check out the profiles of some of my friends and ex-colleagues over at NC ALLSTARS.

My friend and fellow former Idle Thumbs conspirator Spaff (who worked in NCsoft’s publishing department) has moved on to do a project for Eurogamer and is available for various sorts of freelance work. Be sure to visit his new blog.

Meanwhile, in unrelated news, it looks like Idle Thumbs is making a comeback. Not as the gaming site with actual news and articles that it once was, but a comeback nonetheless. I’m not personally involved in this comeback (at least initially) but be sure to keep your eyes peeled… I for one can’t wait to see the new site.

  3. Well, good luck. I’m sure everyone will land on their feed stronger than ever, and when that happens and you start doing something good remember that I’m looking for work too ;)

  5. Good luck Marek, I lurked at Thumbs forums sometime ago and saw the thread about this unfortunate news.

I hope you guys can get the project restarted in a fresh new company!
